Hi!!!We (Katia,Fiza,Sumirtha,Chloé and Roxane) are going to talk about Notre Dame De Paris, one of the most famous monument in France.

Notre Dame De Paris was one of the first Gothic Cathedrals, and its construction spanned the Gothic period. Its sculptures and stained glass show the heavy influence of Naturalism, giving them a more secular look that was lacking from earlier Romanesque architecture.

The cathedral suffered desecration during the radical phase of the French Revolution in the 1790s, when much religious imagery was damaged or destroyed.

N-D de Paris was restored and saved from destruction by "Viollet-Le-Duc",one of the France's most famous architects. The name "Notre Dame De Paris" means "Our Lady" in French.

N-d de Paris measures 41 m in width,43 m in height from the base of the towers and 63 m at the top towers.

There are five bells at N-D de paris. The great bourdon bell, Emmaunel, is located in the South Tower, weights just over 13 tons, and is tolled to swing chimed. These bells are rung for various services and festivals. The bells were once rung manually
but are currently rung by electric motors. The bells also have external hammers for tune playing from a smaller clavier.

During its history, N-D de paris has been the site of numerous official and other ceremonial occasions, these include :
-1239: the crown of Thorns placed in the cathedral by St Louis during the construction of Sainte Chapelle.
-1430: Henri IV of England is crowned here.
-2/12/1804: Napoleon seizes the crown from the pontif and crowns first himself, then Josephine.
-31/05/1980: After the Magnificat of this day Pope John Paul II celebrates mass on the parvis in front of the cathedral.

a perfect view by night :

Saint Valentin

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. In North America and Europe, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

le jardin du luxembourg et le pantheon

"Le jardin du Luxembourg" was established in 1612 at the request of Marie de Medicis.

It was rebuilt by the architect Jean-François Charling-

It is made of 23 hectares animated by a parterre of flower and sculptures.

Located in the heart of the latin quarter of Paris ( 5th arrondissement ) the gardens hosted several buildings

The place headquarters of luxembourg where the Senate, the Upper House of Parliement ( Luxembourg is a private garden open to the public )

Not very far from the jardin du Luxembourg, there is the Pantheon.

The Panthéon is a building in the Latin Quarter in Paris, France.Located in the V arrondissement on the top of Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, the Panthéon looks out over all of Paris. Its architect, Jacques-Germain Soufflot, had the intention of combining the lightness and brightness of the gothic cathedral with classical principles.

King Louis XV vowed in 1744 that if he recovered from an illness he would replace the ruined church of Sainte-Geneviève (see entry Genevieve) with an edifice worthy of the patron saint of Paris. The Marquis of Marigny was entrusted with the work. He had sponsored the architect Soufflot, whom he chose for the construction of the new Église Sainte-Geneviève (today the "Panthéon") The foundations were laid in 1758.

Ichose to tell you about le jardin du luxembourg et le pantheon because they are the most important monuments for me, in Paris and i find there monument great ! ^^

La Seine

This is, as you probably know, La Seine which is one of the longest rivers in France.

I think it really represents Paris. La Seine is Paris. I mean, it all started there. The earliest recorded Parisians lived on the Ile de la Cité, which is an island on the Seine. It was indispensable to ancient parisians as it is now to modern Parisians. As we, parisians, don't have the sea or anything, we love (or I love?) hanging out on The Quais which are really nice in summer (when, by the way, you can dance rock and roll or tango) .

Many artists, such as photographers, movie directors (for example the famous scene taken from the movie An American In Paris (with Gene Kelly)) and paintors were inspired by it.

If la seine is beautiful in day light, it is even more amazing at night. All the houses' lights are reflected on the water, and well, it looks great.

There is something else I really adore about La Seine, I guess it's kind of tourist like, but I love it anyway: Les bateaux mouches. I love it because it's not something you get to do every day, and when you actually can, you don't, because it's a tourist thing and you feel silly to do it. But when you finally get on the boat, you stop feeling stupid, and you just feel great, for a moment your not a Parisian anymore, you're just someone admiring the city with nothing to worry about.

The Caribbean Carnival is a Catholic feast that takes place from the end of December to the beginning of February. It is assumed to be an opportunity to celebrate one last time before to start the 40 days without any meat, until Carême (another catholic feast).

Even though the Caribbean celebration takes place in February, Paris stands out from the other cities: usually June and especially July are the French celebration months here. I think you already know how it’s like thanks to the famous carnival of Trinidad and Tobago and New-Orleans for example. It is the largest popular demonstration in the West-Indies and because Caribbean people who live in Europe do not often have enough money to go and see the real carnival, some Caribbean associations decided to create their own carnival in France(7 years ago).

It’s a colorful and rhythmical celebration which takes place on a day: 2 years ago it was from “La Place de la République” to “Nation” for 2 days, from 2:00PM to 6:30PM. Between 50000 and 70000 maskers congregate to dance on Caribbean music (gwoka, biguine, kadans, zouk, kompa, dancehall, raggamuffin…) and to see the big parade. There is also Caribbean known music groups who sing and people can taste products from the West-Indies.

The entire Caribbean community of Europe meets to celebrate each year and this is one of the most important event of the year. And the purpose of the Carnival is attained when all French meet, not only Caribbean people, and live it up to the rythmn of the West-Indies.

If you want to see more photos of the French Caribbean Carnival (at least the one of 2007), check this out: Carnaval Tropical de 2007

Notre dame de paris

Notre Dame de Paris, known simply as Notre Dame is a gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité, in Paris, France, with its main entrance to the west. Notre Dame de Paris is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. It was restored and saved from destruction by Viollet-le-Duc, one of France's most famous architects.

Construction began in 1163, during the reign of Louis VII and it was finished in 1250.

French novelist Victor Hugo, an admirer of the cathedral, wrote his novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame (titled in French Notre Dame de Paris).

Dimensions
41 m in width
43 m in height until the base of the turns
63 m at the top of the turns

I chose to tell you about "Notre dame", because I think this cathedral is an heritage of the old Paris

Place des Vosges

La place des Voges is near the Bastille (which was an important place during the French Revolution). It's a big garden where the famous writer and politician Victor Hugo (who wrote Les Miséarbles, Notre Dame de Paris... ) used to live. You can see a French flag by his house so you immedialtly see which one is his appartment. The whole neighborhood is pretty rich with a beautiful architecture. It's a nice place to go during the summer or when there is a nice weather.La place des Voges was to built in 1605 at 1612 and called "La place Royale" ,it was called "La places des Vosges " in 1848 at the beginning of the second republic. This place represents Paris for its architecture and its history. It was created before "La tour Eiffel ". I think it represents Paris because of its history.

Like you can see on the picture we had a nice time there... at this moment we had a 30 minutes break .

We all had fun !

Pétronille and Banawata

Notre-Dame

"Notre Dames de Paris" is not the greatest church in France but it is one of the most impressive buildings made in gothic-style, it is one of the most famous symbols of France, it is located near "la Seine" it is a very special church because of the times it took to build it, it went across centuries so the style of the church is a mix between different architectural styles.

The building of "Notre-Dame" began in the fourth century and ended in Thirteenth century but a part was destroyed eighteenth century but rebuilt in the nineteenth century.

I think that it is a symbol of France because "Notre-Dame" crossed the centuries but it is still
standing up.

Alexandre, Eve

A garden in the middle of the latin quarter

It is because of the will of Mary de Medicis that this gardenwas created and restored later by Chagrin. The French centered this garden on the main pool, where from there leaves in a star pattern the straight paths. A terrace overhangsa group of enlivened statues of queens and princesses of France chosen by King Louis Philippe.

In this garden of 25 hectare French decorated with stalls full of flowers and with wooded plates, each finds ones happiness there.

The walkers venture to discover newsstand, an apiary and anorchard. The sportsmen come to run in the evening and morning and to train on the 6 tennis courts. The children push the small sailing boats in the basin, ponyride or attend the shows of puppets. The adults play bowls or chess and the lovers hug each other near the fountain of Medicis.

the senators will make their fair choice, since it is also the garden of the Senate.

Photographic exhibitions, in big format, are regularly installed on the gates of the garden, visible free by the public of day as night.

The trocadero

We are on the left

Hello,

we are Tania, Abir, Ya-nick and Jordan and we are pupils of Jean Jaures. On monday, us and our class went to Paris (in many places like Bastille, Le jardin du Luxembourg, Place des Vosges,Trocadéro...). We choose to describe trocadéro.

The trocadero's a palace situated in front of the Eiffel tower and it was built in 1937.

The palace is divided in two symetrical parts , if you seee a picture of it from the sky you can think you're looking at palace through a giant miror.

Between the two parts of this palace is the square of human right s it's where most demonstrationsof human rights take place ), from which you have a nice view of the Eiffel tower. The square's connected to a long and very nice foutain by two big and tall stairs.

On the left and on the right of the fountain are two gardens which also symetricals.

We choose this place it's one of the most beautiful place of Paris. This place is beatifull, we have the eiffel tower , a nice garden , a gigantesque aquarium and many cute statues ; And they have historic patrimony in this place that's why i am proud to present it to you because it's the symbol of France.

La Place De La Bastille

Place de La Bastille

La Prise De La Bastille in Paris occured on 14 July 1789,during the French Revolution.
The attackers were wanted to acquire a large quantities of arms and ammunitions stored there.
The Bastille contained only seven prisoners, its fall was the flashpoint of The French Revolution and it become an icon of the French Democratie.
In France,Le Quatorze Juillet (14 July) is a National holiday, formally known as the Fête Nationale ("National Day").
It is usually called Bastille Day in English.
The Storming of the Bastille signalled the first victory of the people of Paris against a symbol of the Ancien Regime ("Old Regime")
The Fête Nationale("National Day") held on July 14,1790,celebrated with great pomp the first Anniversary of the Insurrection.
The edifice was razed in the months that followed.

La colonne de juillet
The July column is on the Place de la Bastille. It was built after “Les Trois Glorieuses”, which are three days of revolution in 1830, the July 27, 28 and 29. On a tablet on the bottom of the column is written :

« À la gloire des citoyens français qui s'armèrent et combattirent pour la défense des libertés publiques dans les mémorables journées des 27, 28, 29 juillet 1830 ».
This monument was imagined by the architect Jean-Antoine Alavoine in 1833 and really built and decorated by Louis Duc in 1840. The column stays on a round base realized under the First Empire to put a fountain with a elephant in the middle but the scuplture was never built. The July Column is surmonted by a statue of an angel called “Le génie de la Bastille” or “Le génie de la liberté “ .

504 victims of July, 1830 and 200 of corpses of the Revolution of 1848 can be found beneath it.

Today we can still see the ruins of la Bastille on the metro at the Bastille stop.

Some books and song were written about the Bastille:*
"histoire de la Bastille" by J.Deloret, the song "La bastille"by J.Brel and a district from St jean de Maurienne.

Activities Place de la Bastille:
La Place de la Bastille is the regular place of various concerts, fairs, and markets (every Saturdays, on the boulevard Richard Lenoir, near the Place De La Bastille is amenaged a marché de la création (market of the creation) where artisans can sell their productions) . This place is very appreciated on week-ends (Friday-Saturday) evenig by the Parisian youth for his numerous cafes, restaurants, cinemas and night clubs.
This place is also an huge place where a lot of people can gather during demonstrations (social demonstrations, and cultural demonstrations).

We have chosen this monument because it seems to us the most interesting :
It reprensents the old Paris and both Paris !

The Tour Eiffel

The Tour Eiffel is one of the world's most known monument. With his 325 meters, it is one of the biggest monument in the world. The Tour Eiffel is the French symbol around the world. it was built by Gustave Eiffel in March 1889 commemorating the French revolution's centenary. The tower has 3 platforms ; a restaurant who is very expensive and reservations are necessary, the Jules Verne (another restaurant) is on the second platform and on the top (warning if you are dizzy !), there is a bar, a souvenir shop and the Gustave Eiffel's office.

-Martha

The phenomenon Manga

Hi Everybody!
I (Katia) am going to introduce you to the french manga phenomenon.

These last years the japanese mangas have been expending in France ,the phenomenon began on tv.

MANGA ON TV:
On tv there are many kinds of Mangas which are broadcast.
The first is the "children Manga" . the ones which are braodcat are :
"Oliver & Tom" ,"Sakura" ,"Pokemon" ,"Digimon' ,"DragonBall" ,"Detective Conan" ,"Yu-Gi-Oh (which is also named GX) ,"Sailor Moon" ,"Gate Keepers" ,"Astro Boy" & 'Saint Seya" etc....
The second kind of Mangas which are broadcat is the "all public" one (starting with teens) .
Those Mangas are :
"Naruto" ,"NaNa" ,"GTO (means: great teacher onizuka)", "Beck" ,"Monster" ,"Fullmetal Alchemsit" ,"Tenjho Tenge" & more ....

Then we started finding "Manga playing cards" in all supermarkets and toy stores .
There are many shops specialised in Mangas .In those shops people sell Mangas, Anime DVD(the tv adaptation of mangas) ,Cds , Goodies ,scholar manga products (like school bags, pencils or notebooks etc..
example of these shops : KONCI

There are also Manga libraries where you can read Mangas, surf on the internet, play video games , eat and drink (sodas are free)
for example in "Manga Café"

There are many Manga events which are or have been organised : Expos(Manga Expo , Japan Expo ,Paris Manga etc ....)
or concerts Like : Nana Kitade's

or olivia's

There are many styles which have been introduced in France thanks to the Manga phenomenon :
The J-pop style or
Harajuku style

My favourites Manga are:

Great Teacher Onizuka ,
It is the story of an ex rebel of 22 years old
who decided to become a teacher to find a 16 years old girlfriend XD).
That Manga is cool and fun I think you'll enjoy it!

Fullmetal alchemist,
This story is about alchemy and brotheship ,
two brothers have lost their members (trying to upraise their mother)
so the are looking for the "philosopher stone" to take their members back
(one of the brothers is a soul fixed in an armour).

Nana
This manga is about two different 20years old girls,
who'll live together and become really good friends.
One of them is ingeniousness and the other one is independant & lives for music .

Naruto (if the pic is not really good it's because this is one of my drawings)
That one is a young ninja.
There are 2 Naruto generations: in the 1st one he's got 13years old ,
He's following his biggest dream (that is to become the best ninja of his village named konoha).
In the second one he comes back from a 3 years formation and he'll fight a organisation of evil ninjas named Akatsuki.

I'll finish with that one because it would bee too long to tell the story of all the Mangas I like
so the last one I'll introduce you to is Tenjho Tenge

TENJHO TENGE utilizes the standard elements of popular shounen (boy's show) series: martial combat and ecchi (sexy things). Souichiro and Bob arrive as new students to Toudou Academy, believing they will quickly become the most popular guys around because of their superior fighting skills. Little do they realize that, unlike their previous school, Toudou is filled with excellent fighters, especially a group of girls eager to trounce the newcomers in order to teach them some respect.
soon they'll be admited to the juken club led by Maya Natsume (a martial combat champion) in which there are Aya (Maya's sister and my favourite character -in the anime she seems stupid but she is not in the original manga-)and Masataka a young man(who is in love with Aya).
